Went to see “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” with some of the cousins last night. That makes viewing no. 3 for me.
It’s really rather depressing to go back down to the Rio Grande Valley, which all of our generation despise, and note that within a twenty-mile radius there are all sorts of spectacular theater complexes. I mean, Chattanooga certainly isn’t some backwater town, but you’d think God would gift us with a Tinseltown USA or something like it.
Anyway, the entire experience was ruined for me by the crowd. The first two showings of it I’d seen all had Tolkienites filling the seats, so there was a rapt reverence for the film. In this one, people laughed at all the wrong places, were confused about the scenery, the pacing, the actors, et al, and were generally not as enjoyable a crowd. I think the next time I’ll see this movie will be when I go to my mini-spa vacation at the end of January. There’s a giant-screen showing of “The Two Towers” at Opry Mills and I think I will try to make it to that one.
And if the casting director would be so kind as to put Legolas and Haldir on a bed and serve them up to me, I would dearly appreciate it.
