never to tell

3 March 2003

Mmm, Freelancer. I’ve been rather hooked on this game, although ever since last night I’ve been frustrated by how difficult it gets after a certain point.

Had a most lovely weekend of it, the highlight being the Nashville Opera‘s presentation of Porgy and Bess. We originally wanted to go and see Dane Cook at Zanies’, but with my respiratory system not having fully recovered from the thorough infusion of cigarette smoke it received in St. Louis, I managed to get plans changed at the last minute.

From Steve:

Tomorrow’s topic is suggested by Dylan: In your blog, I’d like to hear an analysis of the diammetric relationship between morality and rationality in regards to Kant’s Categorical Imperative, with a specific analysis of how the Doctrine of Double Effect would effect your judgement of Ethnorelative Absolutism. Throw in some Plato, Neitchze (I refuse to learn how to spell that), and some Hobbes.

It’s “Nietzsche,” darling. Google is your friend. I’m going to jump in on this, J.M. having turned me on to philosophy during our late-nights-in-bed kind of talks. Guess it’s time to fire up some of the old synapses and attempt a deep, meaningful entry tomorrow.

In three weeks, he and I are going to Phoenix together, which will probably necessitate all sorts of gossipy talk, but we thankfully care nothing about wagging tongues. Unfortunately, my return will be tainted by the fact that I am sharing an airplane with a man I curiously despise, and who makes me wish that one weren’t searched so thoroughly for weapons when boarding a flight nowadays. I wonder if I could spork him and get away with it?

(P.S. Hello, Carnivore!)

D. said the nicest thing to me this weekend after I stumbled in, bleary-eyed and nocturnal. He called me “motherly.” And over a late Sunday lunch, the good doctor said that I was a curious mix of benevolence and desire. All in all, it’s really very lovely to put one’s feet near a little gas stove so as to sip Earl Grey in a pretty spring dress and little heels, all while watching the river go by.
