I am intimately familiar with my sense of smell.
Everyone who visits my apartment always mentions how delicious it smells in there. Between the abundance of Buttercream Yankee Candles scattered throughout, plus the occasional touch of Ginger Peach and Ginger, Peach, and Mango as olfactory highlights, everyone gets tremendously comfortable in the warmth and sweetness those smells convey.
I am a big believer in hedonism, but tempered, of course, by my Mother Teresa complex, and my apartment reflects that. I have a big motion sofa and a matching recliner that swallows me up comfortably, which encourages people to come in and sit for a spell. Luxurious comfort is my decorating theme.
Maybe it’s all my years in theater, but I’ve learned to set a good stage and how important the little things are. There’s an abundance of photography on my walls, both from my own collection and those given by friends. Interesting knicknacks from my worldwide travels are displayed on gallery ledges and tables. My lighting is carefully placed to highlight areas of interest. But one of the most important things to set the mood is definitely the scents that surround you.
Nowadays I am a big fan of The Body Shop‘s Mango Body Butter and slather myself religiously in it after my bath. It’s a rich, deep scent that’s a definite attention-getter, especially when you’re up close and personal. I have a particular affinity for it, simply because of the memories it brings of my upbringing in the Pacific, but the response is certainly gratifying enough.
Upon occasion, I do wear a dash of perfume and my collection has quite a few of Alfred Sung‘s fragrances in it. They aren’t as popular as some of the other perfumes, and people do perk up and ask me what I’m wearing.
But when it comes to men, I am definitely drawn to them by their scent. I used to be tremendously attracted to the scent of tobacco, but Lord knows I’ve gotten past that stage. I used to practically leap atop Merritt after he’d get out of the shower, as nothing quite turned me on like the smell of his fresh, clean body. And men who wear just the right touch of cologne seem to carry themselves with irresistible self-confidence which, as every woman knows, is a siren song in and of itself.
So sniff me! I smell good!
