snow day

23 January 2003

Why is it that the rest of the world gets a snow day, and I have to come in for meetings?

Steven made me turn on the Weather Channel last night to see the storm front slowly sweeping over the Southeast, and today oatmeal cheerfully informed me that they had called off classes for the rest of the week. I told him to stop rubbing it in and that I’d be stuck in dreadful, horrible conference rooms with outside consultants today instead of sleeping in.

Meanwhile, I’m running around my apartment leaving faucets dripping and making sure the heat is set so the cats can snooze in comfort. I half-ran outside to my car, juggling my car keys, purse, briefcase, portfolio, and cell phone, which set the stage for my slipping on a patch of ice and going down hard.

Other than my dignity and a new pair of stockings, nothing else was ruined. I did scrape my knee rather badly when I fell, so I spent the first few minutes at work getting patched up in the nurses’ station. The snow is really quite lovely
