"Solitude" by way of Ellington

13 December 2002

I think George Bernard Shaw said it best in his very funny play The Philanderer. To paraphrase him:

“The fickleness of the men I love is only equalled by the infernal constancy of the men who love me.”

And that quite neatly summarizes the entropy inherent in dating.

While my large, warm circle of friends do sympathize with my plight, they are also the ones who make bets on whether or not my blind date will be murdering me before or after dinner and via what method. Sort of like a real-life Clue with yours truly playing the role of Mr. Boddy.

I added A Thin Line Between Love And Single to the links page, as it’s one of my favorite (yet least-updated) places to visit. And if you love jazz; hell, even if you’re not a fan, I highly recommend giving the Kansas City soundtrack a good listen. I must confess to a new love of “Solitude” after hearing Joshua Redman’s interpretation.
